My elderly parents received two violations from NYC Department of Buildings for an illegal basement. When they called me for help, I did not know where to begin, since they live in Queens, NY and I live in Rockland County, NY. My parents were given a hearing date to appear in court and I immediately contacted an attorney to represent them. I also contacted A-Farr Plumbing, a licensed master plumber, and was fortunate enough to get John Farr. He met me at the home of my parents and told me step by step what would happen and what work he would do to clear up the violation. His price was very reasonable and his advice was priceless. If I had contacted A-Farr Plumbing first, I could have saved the attorney fee. He worked diligently to meet the court deadline and provided support until the paperwork was submitted and the matter was completely corrected. I would recommend him highly. Not only is he an honest plumber, who owns his shop, he is also a consummate professional.

Mr. Farr has exceeded my expectations and has renewed my faith in contractors. He is reliable, on time, honest, and one of the very few contractors who actually answers his phone or calls you back almost immediately! I have since moved from the area, but used Farr Plumbing in my home in Maspeth for over ten years. Friends and family in Queens continue to use John and would not even think about using another plumber. He is fair and hardworking and thorough, and I highly recommend him for any plumbing job you may have!

A city inspector came and told me my basement was illegal. In a panic, I called a bunch of plumbers to remove the violation. Some would only come and give an estimate if I paid them to come, and one told me it would be over $5,000! Luckily, a friend recommended John Farr and he came the next morning. He charged $1,500, did all the paperwork with the city and did a beautiful job really fast–I didn’t have to wait. If only all contractors were like that! I will definitely call him next time I need something done. He’s a licensed master plumber with his own shop. It is a great relief to have a good guy you know you can call in an emergency!
Great Plumber
I’ve used John Farr for 20 years with my houses in Astoria, Jamaica and my building in Forest Hills. I know a fair amount about plumbing myself, but I call John when I get stuck and can’t find the leak. He’s been a great reliable plumber, does his own work and shows up real fast.
Excellent Licensed Master Plumber
I have used many plumbers throughout my time living in NYC. This company has been absolutely exceptional in the level of service he provided at my home. John Farr called me back right away. He was extremely polite, prompt and courteous. The problem was fixed very quickly and he didn’t charge me an arm and a leg. I was legalizing my basement and had to remove several Department of Buildings violations. He removed the violations for me and did a great job. He charged a lot less than the other estimates I got for the job.
I’ve used A-Farr for years
John Farr is a great reliable plumber that I’ve used for 10 years for my houses in Queens. He always comes the next morning when I call, does a good job and doesn’t try to jack up the price or find other expensive “problems” to fix. He always returns my call if he doesn’t answer right away. He’s got all the licenses and insurance and all that, but I use him because he provides small-town service in this big city. Some plumbers I’ve used won’t remember my face a month after they’ve done the job, but John always remembers my family and what he did the last time he came (which, because he does a great job, isn’t often). I couldn’t recommend him more highly. * Pros: Great all-around plumber for homeowners * Cons: He’s a sole owner, so when he’s on vacation I’m out of luck!

I’ve used John Farr for a number of years and have always been very pleased. He removed the violations in the basement apartment I was legalizing at low cost and no hassle. I found out later, when the work was inspected by an architect, that John Farr did top notch work. I was surprised because he never charged much, less than the other plumbers I called! John has always done repairs so they stayed fixed, charged a reasonable price and has really improved the value of my property over the long term. I wish he had a brother who was an electrician!

He gave me lots of good advice
John was referred to me by an engineer that I’ve been working with to clear my violation. He was a very nice guy, did all the necessary things that he said he would do, very informative and he gave me lots of good advice. I would definitely call him again if I ever have a plumbing issue.
